DBAP 830 : Advanced Physiology & Pathophysiology: Obstetrics Anesthesia
This doctoral-level course examines the physiologic adaptation of pregnancy and the pathophysiologic processes associated with obstetric disease states relevant to anesthesia practice. Emphasis is placed on maternal-fetal physiology, placental function, and the anesthetic implications of pregnancy-related changes in major organ systems. Students will analyze high-risk obstetric conditions and apply evidence-based principles to the anesthetic management of labor, delivery, and operative obstetric procedures. The curriculum integrates cultural awareness, socioeconomic considerations, and pedagogical strategies to improve equitable outcomes in maternal health. This course also integrates advanced science with clinical decision-making to support safe, patient-centered anesthesia care for the obstetric population that is consistent with COA expectations for nurse anesthesia education.
